ARBITRATION
Expert Witness in a USD 25M dredging dispute

Thetis Consult acted as an expert witness for one of the parties in a USD 30M arbitration case. The parties dispute the conditions of execution and subsequent impact on time and costs of the project. 

CONSULTANCY BREAKWATER CONSTRUCTION
Procurement of 3M m³ of Rock

 

Thetis Consult gave technical support to a major international engineering company for the procurement of 3M m³ of rock. The rock is to be used in the breakwater of a coastal port in Brasil. Both existing quarries and greenfield projects were analysed. Thetis Consult delivered a procurement strategy, including cost calculations. 

PROCUREMENT AND CONTRACTING
150M USD Capital Dredging Project in Brazil

Thetis Consult gave technical and commercial support to one of the major private port owner of Brazil for the contracting of a USD 150M dredging contract. We drafted the Contract and the Specifications and conducted the negotiations. A well balanced risk distribution and carefully conducted negotiations resulted in a very substantial price reduction for the Client.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Panama Canal - Third Set of Locks

 

Thetis Consult acted during 1 year as the full time Client Representative of the dredging works for the international consortium building the Third Set of Locks at the Panama Canal. The 130 million USD dredging works involved the deployment of heavy-duty cutters, large size hoppers and backhoe dredgers as well as the marine drilling and blasting of more than 300.000m³ of hard rock. The Works were delivered on time and on budget.

DREDGING OF HARD MATERIALS
Solution engineered and procured for international O&G Client

 

Thetis Consult was contacted to find a solution for a long standing draught problem at the quay of this international O&G Client. A significant amount of hard rock had to be removed for the arrival of 2 large FPSOs, at the time of contact already  on their way. An adequate technical solution was found and procured on the market in the short period of time available.  The hard materials were removed on time for the arrival of the FPSOs.

MANAGEMENT OF LOGISTICS
Project Management for Brazilian operations

 

For an international Contractor, Thetis Consult performed project management for the offloading and transport to final destination of concrete caissons and floating dry docks. Together with our parnters, we organised the adminstrative importation, the operational offloading and transport. Five different semi-submersible vessels were succesfully offloaded for a total of 13 caissons and 2 dry docks. 

MANAGEMENT OF LOCAL OPERATIONS
Liaison between international owner and Brazilian charterer

 

For an international offshore Contractor without operational base in Brazil, Thetis Consult coordinated the local operations for one of their vessels that was chartered to a local operator. We organised the temporary importation and all inspections that were required by the Brazilian authorities. We especially focused on upgrading the equipment to the environmental standards of Ibama and the charterer's final client Petrobras. 

 

SAND CONCESSION IN BRAZILIAN WATERS
Breaking new frontiers 

 

Thetis Consult was part of a team of specialists that obtained the license for a large concession for the dredging of maritime sand near the coast of the state of São Paulo, Brasil. We took care of the geotechnical aspects of the licensing and dimensioned the dredging operations. The concession full rights of operations were obtained in 2014.

PORT EXTENSION
​Hydraulic reclamation as an alternative to piling, Rio de Janeiro

 

Thetis Consult participated in the design of an alternative methodology for the construction of a quay extension in the port of Rio de Janeiro. We studied and consulted the market of dredging contractors and advised the Client on price, methodology and ​dimensioning of the operations.

Thetis Consult is helping various foreign companies to establish themselves in Brazil. We offer our deep knowledge of the maritime construction sector to introduce our clients to this difficult market. We pick out specific projects and customers, in which we identify competitive advantages for our Clients. We advise on legal and administrative issues, such as importation of equipment, visas issues and fiscal legislations.
